High Value Furniture Manufacturing Development For Sarawak

SARAWAK, MALAYSIA: The state government of Sarawak will be moving forward to boost competitiveness of its downstream timber industries within international markets. They will establish technical collaborations between industry players for research and development of acacia and other timbers for high quality furniture manufacturing.

A position has been established by the government dedicated towards research and furniture design development, and high value furniture manufacturing development at University Malaysia, Sarawak. A trading house will also be set up to provide a continuous supply of appropriate raw materials.

According to IHB, the Sarawak state government announced their efforts to evaluate and develop industrial training programmes to support downstream industry needs as well as increase involvement of small and medium sized businesses within the state. They are aiming to boost the growth of the furniture industry by improving infrastructures and facilities. Foreign investors are are invited to develop the downstream timber industry in Sarawak.

The state government has also improved upon the Sarawak Timber Legality Verification System to be up to par with international market requirements in a bid to create recognition and attract importing countries.
