German Kitchen Furniture Export Rise

GERMANY: German furniture exports and imports increased in April after the regression recorded in January and March of this year. The German furniture industry association VDM compiled figures on the basis of foreign trade statistics from Destatis, the federal statistic office, reporting 4.2 percent higher export figures than the same month of the previous year.

According to a report by Euwid, this growth figure is higher than the 1.7 percent growth in February. In March, exports were at a low of -2.3 percent. Differences between the individual product groups were also apparent in March. Mattresses (-10.2%), shop and large-scale project furniture (-9.3%), and upholstered furniture (-8.3%) had a sharp fall while kitchen furniture was reported with a growth of 14.9 percent. Living room, dining room, and bedroom furniture had an export increase of 9.0 percent. Other furniture with report growth includes other furniture (+4.7%), other seating furniture (+2.4 %), and office furniture (+1.2%). This development in the first quarter of 2016 registered an increase of 2.0 percent for German furniture exports.
