IKEA Museum To Open

ALMHULT, SOUTHERN SWEDEN: IKEA, the most recognizable furniture manufacturer and retailer, will be opening a museum dedicated to the Swedish furniture giant. This museum will call the building that housed the first ever IKEA store that opened in 1958 home.

This museum will be opened by IKEA in celebration of their success over the decades. The Ikea Museum, in collaboration with Wilkinson Eyre Architects and Uulas Arkiteckter will create an exhibition that includes more than 20,000 pieces from the company’s archive.

The main exhibition at the 3,500 square-meter museum will be divided into three themes: our roots, our story and your stories. Our roots will be the exploration of life in the 19th-century Smaland and the childhood of Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad. Our story will look into the ideas, solutions, successes and failures that they went through since the founding of the company. Your stories will feature the homes of customers and their IKEA products.
