Furniture China Achieved Historical High In Visitor Numbers

Renowned as one of the most important furniture exhibitions in the world, Furniture China 2013 bucked the trend for decline at many other fairs with double-digit growth of its visitor numbers with an increase of 18.5 percent. The event concluded on 15 September, 2013.

Besides key Chinese furniture enterprises, the show hosted 292 overseas exhibitors, including 8 pavilions from France, Belgium, Puglia of Italy, Spain, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand at Shanghai New Int’l Expo Centre (SNIEC) and 4 pavilions from France, USA, Sweden and Taiwan at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center (SWEECC).

In comparison with 2012, the 5-day exhibition this year attracted 85,313 visitors in total. The number comprised 64,182 local visitors and 21,131 from overseas covering six continents of 144 countries and regions. Visitors from Asia made up of 46.43%, followed by European visitors at 23.71%, North American 10.65%, Oceanic 9.37%, Latin American 6.33%, and African 3.51%.

The countries/regions with the most visitors were: USA (1,634), Australia (1,614), Korea (1,337), Japan (1,158), Hong Kong SAR (1,154), Malaysia (1,153), Taiwan (978), India (869), U.K.(869), Thailand (628), Canada (617), Russia (610), France (570), Singapore (495), Germany (437), Italy (392), Spain (358), Mexico (356), Brazil (345), New Zealand (342), Indonesia (336), South Africa (275), Saudi Arabia (263), Turkey (258), Belgium (257), Philippines (252), Holland (206), UAE (199), Sweden (172), Vietnam (151).

Design was the key theme at the expo. Two main features on design were the Design Halls at W4 & W5 and the Design of Designers (DOD). There were also many design relevant activities.

Designer of Designers moved to the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) this year, held concurrently with the Furniture China 2013. More than 150 talented designers from 12 countries and regions were showcased at Hall N6A & N6B. Designers from Italy, Uruguay, Demark, Indonesia, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhejiang, Shenzhen, Hong Kong SAR, Taiwan and so on had their display featured in the Designers pavilion. Hundreds of visitors and exhibitor representatives got active involved in eight majors design activities: Deco Café, Best of the Year — Annual Award Ceremony of Home appliance, Show Flat, Designers’ Night, Designers’ Morning Tea, Design Forum, Expo Store and 2013 China Furniture Design Award, which greatly added vitality to the exhibition.

Another highlight this year was two heavy weight conferences - China Furniture Marketing & Sales Conference 2013 and China Furniture Design Conference 2013, both of which were held at the Kerry Hotel, Pudong, Shanghai on September 11th. A total of 340 representatives attended both events. The China Furniture Marketing & Sales Conference focused on the reform of China’s furniture retailing mode. Renowned key-note speakers shared their views to pressing issues. Jointly hosted by the show organizer and China Interior Decoration Association (CIDA), the China Furniture Design Conference touched on topics connecting furniture design and interior decoration.

Furniture China will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2014. The organizer targets to improve and advance all aspects of the show. Its dates are 10 – 14 September, 2014.
